Fire Station Roundabout Upgrade Completion. Update No. 11 – August 2025
Further to recent articles published by the Wilts & Glos Standard in relation to the completed works at the Fire Station Roundabout in Cirencester, we wanted to update the community on a number of aspects.
While some people expressed concerns on social media in relation to the traffic flow and shared that they had experienced issues when navigating the new layout and the traffic lights, on the whole most road users have had positive experiences using the new roundabout with many positive accounts being shared directly with us.
Our contractors have been reviewing the roundabout since the works completed and traffic has been flowing well. No accidents have been reported. On occasions in the early days it has been necessary to make minor adjustments to the traffic light sequencing, which is normal and expected for any new installation.
Our teams have spoken to a number of businesses in the locality who have unequivocally stated that the traffic is flowing much better than before the works commenced, and that it is now a lot quicker to transit Love Lane and Midland Road.
We will continue to review with our contractors during the 12-month maintenance period, which is the standard approach for a newly constructed roundabout.
The completed works to the roundabout have also been inspected by Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) Highways, as the highways authority, and they have been satisfied with the work and the flow of traffic. In line with GCC Highways guidance the Road Safety Audit Stage 3 (RSA3) took place on 20 August. The RSA3 was undertaken by an independent auditor and focused on safety matters for all modes. The auditor invites all relevant parties, including the police, to attend. Any items raised by the auditor will first be agreed with GCC Highways.
Throughout the improvement works we have maintained a good working relationship with the Fire Station. The Commander is satisfied with the end result. A control system is in place, operated from the Fire Station, to ensure safe and quick access to the highway by the fire engines.

In addition to the roundabout works, Montel Civil Engineering have carried out refurbishment works to the subway linking Watermoor Way to Kingsmead. This work is now complete with the subway open and being used.
We have been monitoring and recording feedback received from the community, made directly to us by phone or email, or via our social media accounts, and we are following up on any concerns or questions raised.
Bathurst Development would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while these necessary works were carried out, and the subsequent inconvenience experienced.
The roundabout works are a requirement of our s106 agreement with Gloucestershire County Council and Cotswold District Council for the new neighbourhood at The Steadings. The £3m investment in the specific works to the roundabout and adjoining roads is funded directly by Bathurst Development. This figure excludes the costs of the asbestos remediation and fees, and is part of our wider investment into Cirencester infrastructure.
Other infrastructure investments by Bathurst Development that have been completed include: the reconfiguration of the Burford Road / Stow Road junction; the provision of a new pedestrian crossing on Chesterton Lane; and a new school building at Siddington Primary School.
The new neighbourhood is being delivered in phases, with the open spaces and community facilities provided with the new homes. There is also investment into education, healthcare facilities, employment and infrastructure to benefit the whole of Cirencester.
