All buildings across The Steadings will exhibit high architectural quality giving a modern interpretation of the key qualities of the Cotswold vernacular. With the use of high quality materials, craftsmanship and local building traditions, the buildings at The Steadings will complement the character and appearance of Cirencester through a sensitive expansion of this attractive Cotswold market town.
With our developers, we will be utilising new technologies and best practice to address the environmental and social concerns we all face. In the construction phase this will focus on the use of local materials, innovation, new tehcniques, energy use, and waste management. Once the buildings are complete they will be energy-efficient and make use of waste water heat recovery systems. Homes will also be fitted with electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
All homes at The Steadings are being built to the highest of standards and design to ensure energy-efficient and enjoyable spaces to live.
Each home within Phase 1, built by HarperCrewe, is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including air source heat pumps, highly-insulated, high-performing built fabric that minimises heat loss, efficient waste water heat recovery systems, and EV charging points. These contribute to a reduction in operational carbon footprint but also help on minimising running costs of the new homes.
Homes within future phases will also include solar thermal or photo-voltaic panels at roof level.
We work closely with each of our developers to ensure, where feasible, the use of local materials, suppliers and contactors to support the local economy and to reduce daily commutes of staff and materials.
Together, we source local natural materials such as natural stone from local quarries within The Cotswolds.
Waste on site is managed closely to ensure it is kept to a minimum, separating out recyclable materials from non-recyclable material. As set out in the Design Code for The Steadings, we aim to reduce the amount of waste produced on site, and where possible, increase the amount of materials use that are recycled and re-used. Our developers use recycled materials at the outset, where possible, and use pre-treated construction materials where appropriate.
For each developer selected to work with across The Steadings, we look at their use of new techniques and innovation to ensure both the build phase and the complete homes are lower carbon, energy efficient and waste is at a minimum.
The architects used across The Steadings are directed by carbon-efficient methods of design, where materials are carefully selected from a sustainable materials schedule, focusing on local sourcing and less energy intensive production processes, where possible.
As an industry, we know there is more to do to improve in the areas of environmental sustainability in the construction phase and therefore BDL is working closely with all developers and contractors to improve in this area over the lifespan of the build phase.
