Fire Station Roundabout. Cranhams Lane. Cycle and Footpath Connections. Update No. 8 – June 2025

news update

Fire Station Roundabout Improvement Works

The works to improve the capacity of the roundabout and provide new pedestrian and cycle crossings on the Fire Station Roundabout are nearing completion.  Traffic lights have been installed (but will not be operational until completion). The foot and cycle crossing surfaces are being finalised, and the service access to the centre of the roundabout nearing completion.

To this end, the roads will be closed overnight to allow for resurfacing and white lining. Dates and times are as follows:

7 to 18 July

20.00 to 06.00

The subway refurbishment works will take place following the resurfacing works, and the pedestrian crossings are operational. The subway works are expected to be complete in August.

Cranhams Lane Bus Stops and Dropped Kerbs

As noted in our May news update (here) dropped kerbs at various points along Cranhams Lane, along with two new bus shelters will be installed, as part of a wider initiative to improve pedestrian and cycle routes between The Steadings and the adjoining areas.

There works were expected to start this summer but have been delayed until the highways authority has cleared and repaired some existing drains. As soon as the new dates have been announced we will share details via our website News Section and to those signed up to receive the Development Email Updates.

Enhancements for Cycle and Footpath Routes

The Steadings will have a network of footpaths and cycle ways across the 100 acres of green and opens spaces within the new neighbourhood, along with improving connections to the wider Cirencester area.

These improvements include links through to Cranhams Lane and on to Chesterton, making it easier to connect to the town centre and other areas of Cirencester. In addition, we are working with Sustrans to explore options for a new cycle path connection to Kemble Train Station.

The plan below shows nine different walking and cycling routes into town from different points in the new neighbourhood. Some of the routes utilise existing paths and roads. Bathurst Development is investing in works to improve the connectivity of these routes as part of our commitments to improve local infrastructure.
