Works Notification – Highways Improvement Works at Cherrytree Lane
Following the update on 19th July, the works to create a new slip road at the junction of Cherrytree Lane, Burford Road and Stow Road will be going ahead as planned, and there are several diversion routes in place. The new slip road will allow vehicles to turn left onto Stow Road A419 which will create extra capacity, ease congestion at the lights and reduce waiting time.
To carry out the works as quickly and safely as possible, we have agreed with Gloucestershire County Council Highways team to carry out the bulk of the roadworks under a temporary lane closure. The lane closure will include the eastbound lane on Burford Road between the services and the A429 junction for the duration of the work. This means local traffic can only travel westbound on Burford Road for the duration of the lane closure.
The closure will commence from 23rd August 2021 and last until the end of the year. The lane closure will be removed at night between 20:00pm and 06:00am for two weeks from 23rd August due to other re-surfacing works on the highways network.
Gloucestershire County Council Highways has supported the proposal for two diversion routes for vehicles from outside the Cirencester area to support the road network and minimise traffic on local roads. These different diversion routes are in place to manage the traffic which is expecting to use the junction, HGVs and passing vehicles will be diverted on to alternative major roads before entering the local area, reducing the number of vehicles movements in the immediate area.
• The route from the north will divert traffic off the A417, to the north of Cirencester, and along the A436, the A40 and the A429.
• The route from the south will divert traffic off the A417 onto the A429 and back on the A417, travelling along the A361, the A40 and the A429.
As noted previously, there is a local access route available for residential vehicles (excluding HGVs) travelling eastbound around the working area along the A417 London Road.
