Works Notification – Somerford Road
As you may be aware works will soon be taking place as part of our programme to improve access which includes upgrading the existing footway along Somerford Road.
From Monday 31st January for approximately three weeks, our contractor (Knights Brown) will be improving the existing footway, parts of which will be widened to improve safety and access for pedestrians. We will be installing a new kerb line throughout this section and creating new dropped kerbs for all properties. Resurfacing works will also take place as part of these improvements to ensure a high-quality finish. The extent of the works is shown on the attached plan.
A kerb-cutting machine is needed initially to remove the existing kerbs and cut the existing carriageway to support the new kerb line. Over the following weeks, works will then progress with installation of the new kerb line and upgrading of the existing footpath. Some aspects of these works will generate a degree of noise and we apologise in advance for any disruption this may cause.
Two-way traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the works, starting at the northern end of the works area – near the allotments – and moving south with progress. During this time, parking will be restricted along Somerford Road and there will be short periods of time where works will be taking place immediately in front of the properties on Somerford Road and so vehicle access may be restricted for short periods. Once the works approach the junctions with Berkeley Road and Wilkinson Road then, three-way lights will be installed to support traffic approaching from each direction.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works, either via the existing pathway or, where necessary, by diverting pedestrians onto the carriageway. Safety barriers will be used to separate pedestrians from traffic.
